4 Questions to Ask When Building Your Dream Car

What is your dream car? That is a very subjective question with no wrong answer. To the twenty-something, a dream car might be a 1965 Shelby Cobra. However, a person in their 40s might be dreaming of a luxurious but reliable vehicle for their commute to work.

It's important to think hard about what you consider your dream car. Aside from buying and fixing up that classic ride, if you are thinking about newer cars, here's a list of considerations when building your new dream car.

How Does It Feel?

Since you are going to be driving said dream car, you want to make absolutely sure you like how it feels. It won't do any good to get behind the wheel only to find you're too tall and don't fit comfortably in the driver's seat. Maybe that sport suspension you thought was going to be fun turns out to be a little too jarring to your bones.

Before building your new ride, test drive some examples to make sure it's something you will be comfortable driving a lot. Researching cheap car insurance is also recommended. After all, a dream car isn't meant to be in the garage all the time but on the road.

Does It Have the Bells and Whistles?

When you think of a dream car, you think of a vehicle that is decked out with all the options. Building out your car with the options you want is the best part of choosing or building your dream car. Do some research first and choose add-ons that you can't live without. Commuters may want to include phone charging stations, top-of-the-line sound systems, or massaging seats. If you are going to be on long trips or vacations with family, you may want to include navigation systems, personal entertainment systems, or fully reclining seats.

The combinations of options are almost endless, and the sky is the limit on the price tag. The most important thing, though, is getting what you want in your dream car.

How Safe Is It and How Well Does It Perform?

After you have your add-ons chosen, you will want to look under the hood. Driving should be fun, so good engine performance is essential. If you are looking for a machine to zoom around the track in, you'll want a high-performance, high horsepower engine. On the other hand, if you want something to cruise down the street in comfort, then look for a vehicle with great gas mileage and a quiet engine compartment.

You will also want your dream car to keep you safe, especially if it's a performance vehicle. Look up safety ratings for the car you're looking at and make sure it meets your standards before forking out the dough for it. Higher safety ratings can also save you money on insurance.

Does It Have Longevity?

Longevity can have many meanings. When thinking about the subject as it relates to your dream car, you might consider how much your car is going to be worth years from now. Many classic cars can hold value for decades, but many newer cars are going to depreciate quickly once driven off the lot.

Longevity could also mean upkeep costs. While older cars may be fixed rather easily, newer cars, especially ultra-luxury dream cars, tend to be super expensive to upkeep. Do your research first, so that the first oil change bill doesn't suck the joy from your new set of wheels.

In the same vein, consider how reliable it is. You'll be driving your dream car a lot. The last thing you want is the inconvenience, expense, and embarrassment of being broken down on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.

There are many choices to make when designing and building your dream car. It's important to take some time and consider all the options before shelling out the bucks for it. When you do buy, though, you will have a car that will bring you service and enjoyment for many years.
