Cult in Indian Marriages

India is a diverse country. The various cultural and religious communities here in India have unique and different customs and rituals they follow in their wedding ceremonies. Being different in many ways, the Indian community as a whole celebrates weddings as a colorful and joyful event.

Marriages are a holy union of two souls. When two people marry each other, they agree to take care of each other in sickness and health, support each other, hide each other's flaws and mainly to love each other immensely. People put in a lot of effort to make their wedding day memorable, as it is the first step to the holy union of marriage. Marriages ensure the continuity of progeny and also makes an individual have their better half/ soulmate to be with them at all times.

Marriages in India are of different types depending on the region, religion or community. Marriages hold great importance in every religion, whether it is Hinduism, Islam, Christianity Sikhism or any other religion or faith. In Hinduism you may see practices like Kanyadaan, Panigrahana, Saptapadi etc. Hindus consider marriage as a holy sacrament. In Islam, to be married is equal to completing one half of an individuals religion. Similarly, every religion considers marriage as the important component of life.

Marriages, being an important and beautiful relation, also have many bad rituals or customs associated with it. Dowry being the most prevalent practice observed in India, is the worst custom to be practiced. Dowry is the money or durable gifts given by the bride’s side of the family to the groom or his family. Dowry is deliberately asked by the groom or his family as the condition of the marriage. Many girls and their families go through stages of stress and tension while collecting dowry

The practice is so prevalent in our society that the girl’s parents have to pay the dowry amount to get their daughters married to eligible, educated and well-established males. It is also seen that females pass their ideal age of marriage, while their family is saving for their dowry. Passing the so-called ‘idle marriageable age’ is also considered a demerit for the girl. Men and their families usually consider an older girl unappealing and less desirable.

Nikah forever, Indias No. 1 Muslim Nikah Matrimony and Nikah App, is a suitable option for the muslim community to find their life partner without being subjected to the social atrocities of the Indian community.
