DIY Carpet Cleaning Tips That Work Like a Charm

1. DIY to clean synthetic carpets

  • Solution of ammonia: Combine one tablespoon of clear household ammonia and ½ cup of lukewarm water.

  • Solution of solvent: Use a solvent with gasoline. Or a replacement nail polish remover, such as a non-acetone polish remover from Cutex Fast & Gentle.

 

3. How to clean stains of oil and grease from carpets?

With your homemade carpet stain remover, follow the directions below to manage butter, nail polish, cooking oil, crayon, lotion, mascara and lipstick stains.

  • On a white cloth, add a small amount of homemade carpet cleaning solvent. Dab it twice, then for a few seconds, push the cloth on the spot. 

  • Rinse with a white cloth covered in lukewarm water by blotting it.

  • On a white cloth, add a small amount of solvent, and then blot.

  • Spray the detergent solution on the stain and then wipe with a dry white cloth.

  • Spray with lukewarm water on the stain, and then spray with a dry white cloth.

  • Wait for an hour or until the carpet dries full. If the stain is getting lighter, then repeat this steps until the stain is gone. 

 

4. How to remove wax or chewing gum from carpets?

 

  • Take a Ziploc bag filled with ice cubes; gently massage the spot until the stain hardens. Shatter it, like a spatula, with a blunt object and vacuum up the chips.

  • With a white cloth, add a tiny amount of solvent and blot.

  • Rinse with a rag covered in lukewarm water by blotting it. 

 

5. How to eliminate mud and dirt from carpets?

  • Extract dry dirt from vacuum as much as possible.

  • Dip a white cloth into the synthetic-fiber carpet detergent solution and dab repeatedly, hold the cloth for a few seconds on the spot. Wait for 15 minutes, then, with a white dry cloth, soak up the excess liquid.

  • In the lukewarm water, dip another dry white cloth and dab it repeatedly, then hold it for a few seconds on the spot.
