Gap Year Travel Experience for women

Whether you’re travelling in a group or by yourself, travel has to be one of the most rewarding experiences. It liberates your mind, broadens your worldview and creates independence in more ways than one.  It’s even more rewarding for women. A sense of being on your own in the wild world, figuring yourself out as you go about your travel can be rewarding for life. Here’s how to make the most of your gap year.

Gap Year Travel Experience for women

  1. Keep your family informed- it’s not a sexist thing to say that parents worry more about the girls than the boys. Keep that concern for you in mind and make sure you don’t spring this news on them at the last minute. Keep them in the loop from the beginning; they might even give you some valuable ideas. Keeping in touch with them will be useful- they’d be happy to pay for your phone card. There are many ways to keep in touch these days- social media, group calls, video chat and emails are all ways to ensure your family doesn’t have to worry too much about you.
  2. Packing- it’s always a temptation to throw in your favourite heels or those outfits you love to party in. But remember a gap year is about learning and carrying your own luggage. Do feel sorry for your shoulders and pack light! If an item won’t take too much space, by all means pack it- your tube of lipgloss or eyeliner is fine. Your complete makeup case is not. Do consider not taking your hair dryer and curler and other equipment that you think you can’t do without. You can and that will be one of your learnings. No matter where you’re going, a long skirt or sarongwill be useful. In certain countries, it’s not appropriate to show your legs. In other cases, it’s useful to stay warm. So do pack a skirt with your essentials. Hair grips or a scarf will also be good. Things you shouldn’t travel without- deodorant, sunscreen and soap!
  3. Medical supplies- if you’re planning to be sexually active, speak to your doctor about what kind of contraception you’ll need. Your period is a reality you have to deal with during your travel- if you have a preferred brand, carry it with you. If you’re on regular medication, then carry enough and your doctor’s prescription as well. It is also a good idea to make a small medical kit with medicines for flu, tummy issues, skin conditions and aches and pains.
  4. Personal safety- while travelling, look for public transport and registered modes of travel, especially taxis. If you’re drinking, look for trusted company and places. Carry some mace or pepper spray in your bag as a precaution. Stay in reliable places, don’t carry too much cash on your person and if possible, lock our knapsack when your travel.
  5. Renting a storage unit for your stuff while you take a year off is imperative. Storage units San Bernardinoare convenient and safe. Come back from your trip and it will be all waiting for you.
