How To Find the Right Healthy Lifestyle: 5 Tips to Find What Works for You

There is a lot of buzz over maintaining a healthy lifestyle. What much of the hype fails to address, however, is that there is not a single healthy lifestyle that accommodates everyone. Each person needs to determine what works best for them. Following a few basic tips can help you find the best strategies to achieve and maintain your best health.

1. Eat a Balanced Diet

Instead of falling victim to fad diets and off the wall trends, stick with a balanced diet that meets your nutritional needs. Look for eating plans that allow you to choose from a variety of food sources. They are easier to stick with long-term, meaning you won’t be tempted to give up on your healthy eating program after a week or two. Look for little ways to boost the nutritional content of everyday foods. Add a scoop of superfood powder to your morning smoothie, choose whole grain options and load up on fruits and vegetables.

2. Set SMART Goals

One of the most effective ways to achieve better health is by setting goals that actually work. Most experts agree that the SMART goal system is both accessible and effective. It encourages health goals that are:

  • Specific- pinpoint exactly what you will achieve

  • Measurable – make sure the goal can be enumerated so you know if you have reached it

  • Attainable – you want to be challenged, but you should also choose goals that you can realistically meet

  • Relevant – any short-term goal should move you closer to your ultimate objective (better health)

  • Time-Bound – set a time frame for meeting each goal and keep it in sight

3. Talk to Your Doctor

Most people view their doctor as someone to call as a last resort or during times of illness. A primary care provider is so much more than that, though. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and goals. She can help you develop a realistic plan that meets your specific needs.

4. Listen to Your Body

While you are working toward better health, it is an absolute must to listen to your body. If something hurts, there is probably a reason and you might want to consider taking a day off from exercising. If a certain food consistently doesn’t agree with you, it may be a food sensitivity or allergy. If you are feeling particularly tired, it could be from a lack of nutrients in your diet or maybe you’ve been skimping on sleep a little too much. Learn to understand the signals your body is sending to stay healthy and fit.

5. Consider Your Lifestyle

Every person has to work within the confines of their lifestyle and interest. What works for one person may be a total disaster for another. Consider your normal routine, food preferences and any interests you have when finding the best healthy lifestyle for you.

So many times, you start out with the best intentions but then get caught up in something else. As you work to change your lifestyle for the better, try to keep the focus where it matters — on your health.
