How To Fit Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule

Working out can seem challenging if you already have a busy life. You can’t simply quit work or stop taking care of your home and family, but you have definite ideas in mind for improving your body and overall health. No matter what type of lifestyle you have, don’t get discouraged and trick yourself into thinking there’s not enough time to work out. These ideas can help you get your steps in, burn calories, and make the most of what time you do have.

Opt For Short Workouts

Many people wrongly assume that in order to work out they need to spend an hour or more burning calories. While hour-long workouts can be helpful, they aren’t the only way to achieve your fitness goals. Shorter workouts deliver the same benefits, giving you the chance to build muscle and get your cardio in. Even better, you can make the most of your workout sessions by using HIIT, short for high intensity interval training. You’ll be out of breath and feel like you spent more time exercising than you actually did.

Consider Working Out Multiple Times In a Day

Another consideration to make is that you can do multiple short workouts in a single day. Some folks choose to exercise once, but if you want greater results, you can try to work out once in the morning, in the early afternoon, and again in the evening. In fact, splitting up exercise sessions is shown to be less draining on your body overall, while reaping the same benefits. Try working out a few times a day for a week and see how you feel. You might be surprised with how helpful this method is rather than trying to devote an hour either too early or too late in the day.

Look For Hidden Ways To Increase Movement

Increasing movement is another way to sneak in extra steps. Think about all the times you could challenge yourself with more movement. This could involve choosing the stairs over the elevator at work or standing up and walking around while on hold on a phone call. In general, standing and/or walking around when you could be sitting down are ways you can increase your daily movement. You could also try working out while watching a TV show, even if it is simply jogging in place.

Cut Down Driving Whenever Possible

How much you’ll be able to cut down on driving depends on where you live and how close you are to places. If you are within walking distance of certain places in your area, you can easily skip waiting in traffic, forgo the car altogether, and burn calories by walking as quickly as possible. If you choose to do this, make sure you are nourishing your body and drinking plenty of water after you reach your destination. Another option would be a supplement like isolate protein to help you build muscle mass after your workout sessions.

Start Waking Up Earlier

If you already have a busy day at the office ahead of you, chances are you’re used to getting up early anyway. But if you want to take your fitness routine to the next level, consider waking up just a little bit earlier. Get a quick workout in and shower before work, then get everything ready for your day ahead. Consider packing snacks that are healthy and can give you energy, especially if you have plans to do a mini-workout at your desk or to try one of the other tips, waking up earlier will make it possible for you to get ready in time for your job while ensuring you have everything you need to start the day off right.

Change It Up And Do Exercises You Enjoy

Another way to find more time for working out is to ensure your workouts are something you want to do. If you find yourself getting tired of doing the same workout, it’s time to switch it up for something that makes you excited. Switch out walking for dancing or try adding weights to your routine. The thought of doing something un and new can be an impetus for many people to make the time necessary to get their exercise in.

Having a busy schedule shouldn’t stop you from working out and getting the body you want. Look for ways you can increase movement, including cutting down on driving. Choosing shorter workouts or workouts that take place multiple times a day can help. Finally, start waking up early to get your exercise in, and change up routines until you find something you look forward to. These ideas can make it possible to not only develop a routine that works for you but encourage you to have a more active lifestyle by moving around more and making healthy choices wherever you can.
