JoSAA 2019 Guide: What are Freeze, Float and Slide options?

JoSAA or Joint Seat Allocation Authority is responsible for counselling admission to (Indian Institute of information technology) IIT’s, (National Institute of technology) NIT’s, (Indian Institute of Information technology) IIIT’s and other (Government funded Technical institutes) GFTI’s. JoSAA in constituted by MHRD.

JEE Main counselling is conducted in three different phases namely JoSAA, CSAB NEUT and CSAB SFTI. Candidates who qualify both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced have to take part in the centralised counselling process conducted by JoSAA. The JoSAA counselling process is tentatively scheduled to commence from June 25, 2019. All the information related to JoSAA counselling will be made available on the official website of JoSAA.

Post JoSAA counselling, seat are allocated to candidates based on their scores and All India Ranks (AIR), vacancies, rank list and different categories. Students are required to select their desired institute type, name of the institute and also the academic program they are interested in after registering online.

Post registration students have to select “choice filling and locking”. Candidates will receive the seat allotment letter from JoSAA by sms or email after allocation of seats through the online counselling process. However, seat allotment will be confirmed only after the students pay the acceptance fees. Post payment of this fee, a provisional admission letter will be sent to the students.

FREEZE, FLOAT AND SLIDE OPTIONS:

There are three main options given to candidates to either retain the seats allocated to them by JoSAA or opt for upgrade in case they are not satisfied with the allotted seat and wish to change to any other institute or to change the allocated academic program within the same institute. Let us closely look at these terms.

1. FREEZE:-

If candidates are satisfied with the seat allocated to them through JoSAA counselling, and accept the given seat and academic program and are not interested to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. Such candidates have to select FREEZE option. After freezing their allotted seats, candidates will not be considered for further rounds of seat allocation.

2. FLOAT:-

If candidates accept the seats offered to them and indicate that they are willing to opt admission to some academic program of higher or better preference in any institute in further rounds, then they should select the float option. However, if the student does not get a seat of higher preference academic program then as per this option, the student will continue with the currently accepted academic program.

3. SLIDE:-

If a candidate accepts the seat allocated to them in counselling but, are willing to opt for admission to a higher or better academic program within the same institute where the current seat is offered then, they have to select the slide option. These candidates will be considered in the subsequent rounds of admission counselling.

Some important points to note here:-

• Candidates selecting “slide” or “float” option, will have to automatically forfeit their previously allocated seat in the earlier rounds post allotment of a new seat.

• If candidates select “Freeze” option then, it cannot be modified later on.

• Candidates will not be allowed to choose “float” and “slide” options in last round of JoSAA counselling.

• Candidates however, can change from float or slide to freeze option by reporting at a centre before the last round of seat allocation.

Documents Needed FOR JoSAA JEE Mains Counselling 2019:-

1. Photo Identification proof

2. Medical examination report

3. Date of birth proof

4. Proof of seat acceptance fee payment

5. 3 passport size photographs (Please note that these photos should match the photos uploaded during registration).

6. Academic documents :-

• Class 10^th mark sheet

• Class 12^th mark sheet

7. JEE Mains 2019 Admit card

8. Provisional seat allotment letter

9. Caste/category certificates (if applicable)

JoSAA 2019 SEAT ALLOCATION SCHEDULE

The rounds for seat allocation are likely to begin from 27^th June 2018 and will end on 18^th July2018. Various seat allocation rounds for JoSAA counselling are scheduled on given dates.
