The Fundamentals of Engineering test is usually the first step toward becoming a certified professional engineer. It is intended for recent graduates and students nearing completion of an EAC/ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering degree program. You should know how to Study for FE exam to get desired marks. The FE exam is computer-based offered year-round at Pearson VUE test centers that NCEES has approved.
What types of questions are there in the exam?
The FE test has 110 questions, the majority of which are multiple-choice. There is no penalty for making educated guesses about difficulties. However, a few of them are multiple-answer, point-and-click, drag-and-drop, or fill-in-the-blank tasks, which are more difficult to guess.
The FE exam covers the majority of courses taken by someone who has completed a four-year engineering degree. You may get a list of specific subjects covered on the FE exam here. We all know engineering courses are challenging, but applying knowledge from all of those courses in one sitting adds a new dimension required for the study for FE exam.
What is it like to take the FE exam?
You have 5 hours and 20 minutes to tackle a total of 110 tasks. The 110 problems are divided into two categories. You move on to the second section of the exam after completing the first section, which consists of 50-60 issues, and you are allowed an optional 25-minute break in between. The 25-minute break does not count towards your exam time limit of 5 hours and 20 minutes. Similarly, skipping the break will not provide you more time to answer questions in the second half of the exam.
Exam preparation and reference materials for FE exam
The only reference material that can be used during the exam is the NCEES FE Reference Handbook. During the exam, you will be given an electronic reference manual. You can either buy a hard copy or download a free electronic copy to access it before your exam.
To get your free copy of the FE Reference Handbook, go to MyNCEES and register or log in. Practice tests are available through NCEES. These practice exams include questions from previous exams and questions explicitly created for study materials to provide you with additional practice. The NCEES practice examinations are now available in paperback format. There are no longer any online practice examinations accessible. If you have any other questions, please get in touch with us.
The NCEES FE Reference Handbook is available for purchase
The NCEES Handbook is available for purchase. Use it in conjunction with your FE Review Manual. You'll want to know how the sections are organized, what data is contained, and where important figures and tables are located in the NCEES Handbook. You should also be familiar with the vocabulary (words and phrases) used in the NCEES Handbook to explain equations and subjects, as you will need to look them up throughout the exam. Both a paper and a PDF version of the NCEES Handbook are available. The PDF version has search functionality identical to what you'll find on the computer-based exam.
Determine which areas of knowledge want additional assistance
Use the diagnostic examinations included in your FE review manual to discover how much you should study in each knowledge area. Diagnostic exams can be used in two ways: before you begin looking to select which subjects to focus on and after you have finished studying to assess if you are ready to move on.
Fill in as many practice problems as you can
Each question in the exam has a time limit of fewer than three minutes on average. You must be able to recall solution techniques, formulas, and critical information on the spur of the moment. Working as many practice problems as you can find is the most excellent method to improve your recollection; solve every example in your review book and every situation in the associated practice book. For example, if you're taking the FE Civil test, we recommend purchasing the FE Civil review bundle, which contains FE Civil Practice, a review guide, two practice examinations, and more. Make sure you don't miss any of them. All of the challenges were constructed in such a way as to highlight important themes.
