The Most Common Things That Hinder Productivity in the Workplace

Workplace productivity is something that can make or break your business. If your employees don’t handle their tasks and workload during normal office hours, your business will begin to suffer. This can cause serious stress for everyone involved. While this can be daunting to think about, it is necessary since this is not the easiest problem to solve.

Some everyday factors can impact productivity. If you don’t find a way to target these issues, you won’t be able to improve output from your staff during a normal workday.

If you are ready to improve productivity, you have to overcome the obstacles that may keep you from working at your full potential. Some productivity killers are quite common, while others are more unique to your business or niche. Keep reading to learn more about productivity killers in the workplace and what you can do to help your employees overcome them.

Subpar Network

Your network has a huge impact on how productive your team is. If your network is constantly down or if it crashes throughout the day, keeping workers on task is virtually impossible. Every time a worker is interrupted, it will take them (on average) 23 minutes and 15 seconds to get back to what they are doing. If your network is interrupted several times per day, that is almost an hour or more of lost, unproductive time.

Now may be the time to consider using network management services. What is network management? It is hiring someone in-house or a third-party service provider to keep your network working up and help ensure high productivity levels.

Insufficient Training

When you hire someone for a job, they probably don’t know everything there is to know about what to do. However, there is much more to a person’s credentials than if they know everything there is to know about the position they have applied for. If a new hire has gaps in their experience or knowledge, you can fill this in with on-the-job training. While this is true, there are still quite a few employees who have never received the training needed to handle things productivity.

In fact, according to one study, just 31% of Americans received formal job training. If someone on your team does not know what they are doing, they may make mistakes or fail to finish their work. This can cause frustration for everyone, and productivity levels will begin to fail. It is in your best interest to ensure your staff is fully trained at all aspects of their job.

Lack of Communication

Your workplace cannot run efficiently without good communication. Many employers don’t realize that talking to employees does not mean there is good communication present if there is no discussion regarding problems and performance.

If someone tells their manager or boss that everything is fine, this may not be the truth; however, this happens because they are not comfortable sharing their issues. This is usually the employer’s fault, as they have not taken steps to establish strong communication channels with their staff.

Engaging with your employees is essential to make sure you receive high levels of productivity, along with good retention levels. Without this, your workers will not feel comfortable with their job or know how to do it. Instead of asking for help, workers who cannot communicate with their boss will just continue to struggle on their own.

The result of this is bad work or no work. If improper communication is seen at a workplace, there will be no engagement, and the business will never thrive.

When it comes to your business, you can increase productivity levels among your team in more than a few ways. It is up to you to put these methods into place to help ensure you achieve the most success possible. In the long run, taking the steps above will improve your business and set it up for long-term success.
