4 Common Warning Signs that Tells Your Vehicle Needs Professional Brake Repair Services

Owning a car is not easy. You should be up-to-date with every servicing you have to do or you may run into unexpected damages. Brake servicing is one such thing that you cannot ignore. The car gives some warning signals when it is time for service. Have a look at 4 common warnings that tells your vehicle needs professional break servicing.

1. Brake light

When the brake light on your dashboard lights up, it means you need to do servicing. This is possibly due to smart electronic systems installed in your car. These lights usually light up only when your brake is applied. So if it stays on after the brake is removed then this is the reason. You need to take this seriously and get the brakes checked.

2. Grinding and Squeaking noises

If you can hear a high pitched noise when you apply brakes it is probably are indicators of the wear in your brake pad. You need to replace your brake pads if you hear this squeaky voice every time you apply brakes. Brake repairs in Perth and many nearby areas provide this type of services. If you don’t do it soon you will have rotor damage. That can be very expensive to fix.

Grinding voices from the pedal is also another indicator. Mostly, it can be something like rock caught in the caliper. This can be also due to wear on the brake pads and the sound is due to metal and metal interaction creating grooves in rotor. It can also be due to lack of lubrication in the rear drum brakes or brake shoe rusting.

3. Scrapping, vibration on wobbling while braking

Vibration of steering wheel or shaking can be an indication of an uneven motor. Thousands of wheel revolution happens on a regular basis or rust development can lead to an uneven rotor. For every servicing, to correct these types of flaws, the face of the rotor is tuned. You can check out Mechanics Rockingham for such services. The tuning should be done according to that particular vehicle’s specification. A tiny difference of thickness can make your brake wobbly.

Sometimes brake caliper will not be working properly which results in rough breaking. Brake caliper has to squeeze the brake pads against rotors to slow down the motion of the car. The pad can bump into the rotor due to unevenness in  it. This transfers some of the brake pad material into rotor. This can also cause shaking during applying of brakes.

Every time you remove your tyre, make sure it is fitted back into the car properly. A slight disorder in the lug nut installation which are bolts that connect your wheel to the hub may lead to a bumpy brake.

4. Leaking

When you apply brakes, if you feel your brake pedals are soft you should check it with a mechanic. There must be a leak from master cylinder or brake system. The fluid from the brake system, on applying brakes, is pushed to a thin piping which creates hydraulic pressure. If there is leakage, the pressure needed for rotor to stop is not enough.

Other warnings

Apart from this, there are a couple of other indicators for brake failure.

  • Soft or spongy brake pedal

If the brake when applied is going all the down, there will be air or moisture in the brake pad. You need to service it immediately.

  • Up and down bouncing when you stop suddenly.

This might look like a brake problem because it happens when the brake is applied. It is some problem with the shock absorber. They should be replaced. Sometimes this can  be due to inadequate amount of brake fluid.

  • Burning smell while driving

If there is a chemical odor or burning smell while you are driving, pull over immediately. This might be a stuck brake caliper.c

  • Movement to one side while braking

This might be due to one brake caliper applying more pressure than the other or a brake hose problem.
