What are Common Problems of the Eye?

Vision is a valuable sense of the human body. Many of us take our vision for granted. But often, people will experience temporary problems of the eyes like fatigue, blurriness, or itching.

Most problems of the eyes are short lived and will usually disappear with passage of time, without causing any complications. But sudden problems of the eyes and those that persist for a few days must be checked by the doctor.
Here are some common eye problems and their causes:

Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)

In case of a child or infant, the brain will not tolerate double images and will shut down vision in the weak eye. Such involuntary loss of vision is called as Lazy Eye. In other words, amblyopia is condition in which a healthy eye cannot see. This vision loss can be reversed with therapy if the eye problem is corrected in childhood. Eye drops may be applied to the better eye which forces weak eye to recover proper function.

Presbyopia

This refers to loss of ability to see small print or close objects clearly. It is a natural condition that develops with age. But usually it may be detected only after the age of 40. This condition is typically corrected with reading glasses. You can use bi-focal lens, which allows you to see objects in a clear fashion- both far and near.

Floaters

In this condition, tiny specks or spots float across the field of vision. Many of us can notice these during a bright day or in well-lit rooms. Floaters are typically considered normal but in some cases may have an insidious problem.

Problems include conditions like retinal detachment, which occurs when floaters are accompanied by flashes of light or if there is reduced field of vision like a curtain falling over the eye. In case you note changes in size and shape of floaters, go in for medical advice as soon as possible.

Dry Eyes

This is a condition wherein tear glands either do not make adequate tears or make tears of poor quality. Dry eyes are an uncomfortable condition causing burning, itching or in some rare cases, loss of vision.

Your eye doctor might suggest making use of a humidifier in your home and special eye drops to stimulate real tears. He may even place plugs in tear ducts to lower tear drainage. Surgery may be required to correct more severe cases of dry eyes in patients.

Tearing

You may suffer from too many tears triggered by sensitivity to changes in temperature, wind or light. These problems can be typically cured by wearing sun glasses that shield the eye. Tearing sometimes implies a more serious problem like eye infection or a tear duct that is blocked. Your doctor can advise you on how to deal with this condition. Consult Greensborough eye clinic for correcting such eye problems.

Eye Twitching

Many patients suffer from eye twitching. An eye twitch refers to an involuntary motion of the eyelids. Though usually harmless, a simple eye twitch can be irritating and last for weeks. Eye twitching maybe caused by:

 Caffeine
 Stress
 Pink eye
 Fatigue
 Tourette syndrome.
 Panic disorder

These are some of the common eye problems of people.
