What type of storage is used on mobile devices

A storage unit is a device capable of reading and writing information to store it permanently. We currently have many classes and categories of storage units. In the market, a wide variety of internal or external devices capable of holding an amount of data available.

Storage capacity is one of the most valuable resources of a smartphone. If you want to know “what type of storage is used on mobile devices” then  it same as the conventional storage system.

What kind of storage devices is used in cell phones?

  1. ROM memory – It comes from the English Read-Only Memory or read-only memory. And it is that the ROM memory is used to store data that does not change or that does not change over time, such as the device’s boot system or BIOS.
  • It is not erased, even if the device is turned off or has no power.
  • The data on this memory should not be changed after it has been manufactured.
  • There is another type of ROM memory, the Erable Programmable ROM, which can be reprogrammed.
  • In the world of mobile devices, the Mobile internal storage types are incorrectly called ROM.
  1. RAM – The English Random-Access Memory comes from how its cells are accessed where information is stored. Unlike the previous type, it can be written and read, but its information disappears when the device is turned off.
  • It is a high-speed memory, traditionally used to store temporary applications and data while using the mobile, and it is turned on.
  • For example, a mobile phone will store the music player in RAM when we open the application, but also when we press the Home button and open the calculator, both applications sharing the RAM.
  • The more RAM the device has, and the faster the access to it, the more fluid we will notice in use.
  • The problem then arises when the RAM is erased. This decision is delicate since if we do not save the application data elsewhere, temporary information may be lost, although never information from the application itself (stored in internal memory).

You must consider some aspects related to RAM in Android:

• Having more RAM does not guarantee a freer percentage since Android takes advantage of that excess memory to store more open applications.

• Accessing an application loaded in RAM greatly speeds up its opening, making it almost instantaneous.

• If the RAM reaches the limit and we open a new application, closing an old application increases the opening time.

• If we have minimal RAM, this last process occurs almost with every application we open, causing a lag or slowdown of the phone in each action.

  1. Flash memory – If we stored all the information in RAM, we would lose all the data when turning off or restarting the phone, and we would have very little space to store applications, photos, etc. Flash memory comes in our help to solve this problem.
  • This memory, slower than RAM, is what will allow you to install applications, store photos, videos, and documents.
  • In the ROM section, the phone’s internal memory is a FLASH memory because we can save and read data on it.
  • It is possible to increase it using a SIM card, Flash memory type, and thus have more storage. It is also possible to install applications on the memory card.

The internal memory of a Smartphone is embedded Multimedia Controller or UFS (Universal Flash Storage), which can be enhanced through a microSD.
